Aims and Fit of Module

This module aims to be an introduction to the theory and practice of journalism, including newsgathering, newswriting and news production. Students will be exposed to the ideals, values and practices of journalists and given the opportunity to put them to use. Mastery of these two aspects will be demonstrated by means of newswriting.

Learning outcomes

Students will: 
A. demonstrate understanding of the key concepts in journalism, including understandings of news values and practices;
B. be able to differentiate journalistic genres and techniques and use them to engage in story-telling accordingly;
C. take part in the production cycle and demonstrate this by writing different types of news reports.
