This module aims to introduce students to some of the most pressing issues in media ethics, such as the concepts of impartiality and objectivity, the regulation of privacy and media intrusion, depictions of violence, and instances in which censorship might be justified.
It aims to provide students with sound understanding of the moral complexities, dilemmas, and duties that arise in relation to journalism and the media that are amongst the most difficult to negotiate, critically developing a philosophical approach to conceptualizing the aim of ethical journalism.
Learning outcomes 
By the end of the module students will:

A. Distinguish what constitutes ethical behaviour in the practice of media and communication-related careers, drawing from both Chinese and Western ethical paradigms.

B. Propose a range of ethical responses to ethical dilemmas they might face in media and communication careers.

C. Account for circumstances in which media censorship may be desirable.
Method of teaching and learning 
An introduction to the notion of ethics, approaches to media ethics, ethics in the press, media harm and offence, sex and violence in the media, ethics and the global media, ethics and the new media.
