This module is designed to: build on the students’ practical skills and knowledge of production established during semester one and aims to develop their critical understanding of fiction film production as well as offering the opportunity to author a short fiction film.
A Analyse the development of fiction forms and functions.
B Demonstrate a critical and reflective appreciation of creating meanings within fiction in relation to a short narrative project.
C Develop their knowledge of research and production techniques in relation to fiction production work.
D Understand the nature of pre-production, production, and post-production work in relation to the production of a narrative short.
The teaching sessions are divided into two components (lectures and group work).
The lectures will introduce students to the history, form and function of screen fiction as it has developed in both film and television and aims to develop their critical understanding of fiction production.
The group work will develop production skills such as planning, organisation, and production management.
Students will work in small groups to develop their ideas and take a project through to the point of production of their own narrative short film.
