Aims and Fit of Module
This module is designed to:
Introduce students to the craft of storytelling including basic building blocks of character creation, intention, conflict etc.
Provide a historical context for stories and myths from diverse cultures
Engage students in the art of storytelling
Promote the rules of storytelling and allow the generation of original stories
Learning outcomes
A Understand mythic structures and how they permeate film and TV stories
B Comprehend the significance of character arc and character development, conflict (inner and externalized); and how this can be conveyed to an audience
C Engage in oral traditions of storytelling
D Engage in the practical task of writing original narrative stories
Method of teaching and learning
The teaching sessions are divided into two components (Lectures and seminars).
A series of lectures will provide the historical and conceptual background to understand the writer and his/her process
Seminars will focus on the practical process of ideas generation and telling stories, both verbally and in writing
