Aims and Fit of Module

This module will introduce students to the comparative study of journalism, highlighting the different systems and practices across the globe, and paying particular attention to the demographics, education, socialization, professional attitudes and working conditions of journalists in various countries, closely looking at the many societal and organisational constraints in which journalists operate today. The module examines the impact and consequences of technological change on the practice of global journalism on print, broadcast and online.

Learning outcomes

A	compare and contrast the work practices and professional values of journalists around the world;
B become familiar with the various factors and institutions that influence global media content;
C have a sound understanding of the role of technology, news agencies and networks in the global media marketplace;
D critically analyze changes and trends in news production and news media consumption around the globe.
