Aims and Fit of Module

A critical and theoretical module covering the development of television, from its beginnings through the development of different national and commercial broadcasting practices and agendas through to the rise of HBO/Showtime/Starz and the power of the Showrunner and the format.

Learning outcomes

A	Demonstrate an understanding of the historical factors in the development of television;

B	Critically examine the different genres and styles of television;

C	Develop an outline for a television programme based upon current demand and developments

D	Demonstrate an ability to work creatively and independently whilst undertaking research
