Aims and Fit of Module

This module will provide a practical introduction to photojournalism, as well as an overview of the development of photojournalism as a profession and as a genre. It will discuss a variety of tenants of quality photojournalism and the ethical issues associated with it. The module will also familiarise students with critically acclaimed examples of photojournalism. Students will be introduced to a wide range of photographic techniques and to the use of editing software. They will also explore the relationship between photographs and newspaper and magazine page layouts and will be equipped with an understanding of how to use the camera to capture an event, tell a story and communicate meanings and ideas.
