Aims and Fit of Module
This module seeks to introduce students to the form and function of documentary as it has developed internationally, in both film and TV. Using this knowledge, students will be actively encouraged to engage in practical research for documentary film-making
Learning outcomes
A. analyse the development of documentary forms and functions
B. critically demonstrate a clear understanding of the character of the debates about ‘truthfulness’ and ‘the real’ which have surrounded documentary work
C. apply advanced skills in visual and verbal analysis
D. develop advanced documentary research skills, which can then be applied to the practice of documentary film-making
