Aims and Fit of Module

This module is designed to frame investigative journalism within a global perspective and provide students with advanced reporting techniques. It introduces them to key historical developments, current social, economic and technological challenges and major themes and figures of investigative journalism worldwide. Case studies typically include reporting in China, political scandals in the US, undercover reporting in the UK, celebrity stories and European cross-border investigations. Students will develop the research methods and newsgathering techniques needed to produce a piece of investigative journalism, building on basic skills developed in News Reporting. This module is part of the Journalism/PR pathway.
