Aims and Fit of Module

To provide guidelines, concepts and models for designing and evaluating applications utilising advancedweb technologies.
To introduce Artificial Intelligence and Semantic Web techniques that can be applied to the application ofadvanced web technologies.
To introduce the notion of semantic web applications intended to be used by software.

Learning outcomes

1.Have an understanding of the basic formal methods and techniques for designing and implementing advanced web applications
2.Have an appreciation for Artificial Intelligence and Semantic Web research related to advanced webtechnology applications
3.Be able to apply specific methods and techniques in the design and development of an application ofadvanced web technology for a case study.

Method of teaching and learning

Formal lectures: Students will be expected to attend three hours of formal lectures in a typical week plus a one hour supervised lab-based tutorial.
Private study: In a typical week, students will be expected to devote six hours of unsupervised time to private study. The time allowed per week for private study will typically include three hours of time for reflection and consideration of lecture material and background reading, and three hours for completion of practical exercises.
