Module Catalogues, Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University

Module Code: DPH102
Module Title: Life Sciences for Public Health I: Biological Basis of Health and Disease
Module Level: Level 1
Module Credits: 5.00
Academic Year: 2019/20
Semester: SEM2
Originating Department: Health and Environmental Science
Pre-requisites: BIO002

Aims
The aim of this module is to provide the student with an integrated understanding of the basic sciences of human health; anatomy, physiology and pathology, via a systems approach. This module will review the form and structure of the human body; the normal functioning of bodily processes and the pathological processes and mechanisms of disease.
Learning outcomes
A Identify the structure and function of human cells, tissues, organs and systems.

B Describe the difference between normal and pathological bodily structure and function.

C Outline the structure and function of the systems of the human body.

D Describe the normal and pathological structure and functioning of the human body with appropriate terminology.

E Interpret how stressors and environment can affect the homeostatic maintenance and functioning of the human body.

Method of teaching and learning
Lectures and Laboratory sessions.
