Electronic Circuits

Module Title Electronic Circuits
Module Level Level 1
Module Credits 5.00

Aims and Fit of Module

The aim of the module is to introduce students to fundamental electronic devices - diodes and transistors, and how transistors are used in design and analysis of amplifier and switching circuits.

Learning outcomes

A. Understand the behaviour, important properties, equivalent circuit representations and applications of diodes and transistors.
B. Design and analyse simple rectifier and stabilizer circuits
C. Design and analyse simple BJT/MOSFET circuits (e.g.biasing circuit, DC analysis, AC analysis), in terms of input/output resistance, power gain, voltage gain, current gain.
D. Analyse simple BJT/MOSFET amplifier’s frequency response, by considering the effect of coupling capacitors and bypass capacitors.

Method of teaching and learning

This module will be delivered by a combination of formal lectures, problem classes, class demonstrations, and case studies. Some sessions on this module will be delivered by Language Centre tutors, with the aim of assisting students with language/study skills requirements for the module. Students will also be provided with online language/study skills support to help them engage with module content.
