Aims
The main aims of the module are:

• to introduce students to syntactic theories/approaches including Generative Grammar and Cognitive Grammar

• to equip students with methods for analysing phrase, clause and sentence structure

• to apply methods of description and analysis to language at syntactic level.

Learning outcomes 
A Demonstrate knowledge of key aspects of syntactic theories and approaches to language

B Demonstrate an ability to analyse language at phrasal, clausal and sentential levels

C Use Syntactic Theories/Approaches to account for language data

D Demonstrate an ability to analyse language from different approaches such as Generative Grammar and Cognitive Grammar

Method of teaching and learning 
The teaching sessions are divided into two components: Lectures and Tutorials//workshops.
