1. To introduce students to some major groups of translation theories, including functional, register and system theories;
2. To generate awareness of key concepts in translation studies, such as equivalence, free/bound translation, translation shifts, translation norms and translation universals;
3. To acquaint students with basic translation skills.
A. grasp major translation theories and key concepts of translation studies;
B. use translation theories to describe, analyze and criticize translation phenomena;
C. translate general texts from English to Chinese and vice versa.
The teaching sessions are divided into two components (Lectures and Tutorials/workshops).
