Aims
The main aims of the module are: To introduce students to the most relevant literature in language assessment, including the concepts of validity and reliability of language tests.

• To familiarize students with some common types of test items and alternative assessment tools.

• To provide students with skills of designing language tests both in paper and in computer mode.

• To provide students with relevant knowledge to critically evaluate language tests and assessment tools.

Method of teaching and learning 
The teaching sessions are divided into two components: lectures and tutorials/workshops.

• Key concepts and terms in language assessment

• Standards based assessment

• Alternative assessment

• Keeping grades and analysis of test results

• Assessing speaking and listening

• Assessing reading and writing

• Computer based language testing

• Evaluating some popular tests

• Reliability in marking

• Designing language tests and designing test specifications including rating rubrics
