Aims and Fit of Module

The main aims of the module are to: 
• Introduce some of the main research, theorizing and practice involved in the evaluation and design of curricula for English language education
• Examine each of the main levels of activity involved in curriculum design, i.e., needs analysis, situation analysis, course design, material design, syllabus design and materials evaluation and adaptation
• Identify relevant academic concepts for each of these areas studied
• Raise awareness of factors that are crucial to effective teaching
• Understand and use the practical procedures and principals involved

Learning outcomes

Students completing the module successfully should:

B Have a good knowledge about each of the main levels of activity involved in curriculum design, i.e., needs analysis, situation analysis, course design, material design, syllabus design and materials evaluation and adaptation

D Be aware of the key factors that are crucial to effective teaching
E Be able to apply theoretical principles in real course and material designing practice

Method of teaching and learning

The teaching sessions are divided into two components: lectures and tutorials/workshops.
