This module aims to examine the underlying controls on landscape development and landscape patterns across the globe. In addition to the understanding of spatial patterns as a consequence of tectonism, climate, weathering, soils, vegetation and geomorphic processes, the module also aims to consider changes through time as a result of climate change and human impact. Particular themes of climate change and human impact include: Tectonism and Climate Change, landscape development and geomorphology.
Learning outcomes 
On completion of the module, students will be able to:

A. Apply understanding of spatial and temporal patterns of tectonics, climate, weathering, soil development and erosion to interpret landscapes and landforms.

B. Describe how climate and tectonics underpin landscape development in space and time

C. Apply their understanding to explain spatial patterns of weathering, soils, vegetation and erosion

D. Explain the linkage between tectonics and climate over the long-term

Method of teaching and learning 
Weekly lecture sessions, supported by class notes and reading lists, provide the main means of delivering information to students. Lectures are supported by biweekly tutorials designed to enhance the understanding of key concepts. Some sessions will be delivered by a LC tutor, to assist students with language/study skills requirements for the module.
