Aims and Fit of Module

As part I of dissertation training, this ESS module intends to introduce the dissertation process, including (1) identifying a dissertation topic related to Accounting and Finance, (2) how to conduct and write up a literature review and find an interesting research question, and (3) how to conduct a research design, thereby forming a research proposal.

Learning outcomes

A	Demonstrate the ability to manage their time efficiently and effectively against deadlines
B	Identify a suitable dissertation topic related to Accounting and Finance
C	Conduct a comprehensive literature review to form a specific research question/project and make use of information relevant to the project
D	Demonstrate a basic understanding of the process of producing a feasible and appropriate dissertation plan, i.e., a research proposal

Method of teaching and learning

The main delivery approach is a seminar with different focuses on each seminar. Each seminar topic will guide students to start their dissertation preparation at an early stage. This ESS module also links to the delivery of FIN902 Research methods in Accounting and Finance II in semester 2.
