Aims and Fit of Module

In this module students will engage in experimental filmmaking. Students will participate in practical projects and written work that will explore some key approaches to experimental film and digital film practice, video art, and analysis of experimental film practitioners. They will conceive, plan, develop and edit a time-based work, and be encouraged to consider experimental approaches to develop their ideas in conjunction with tutorial support. Students will be exposed to a diverse range of experimental film and digital film practices through a series of screenings and discussions, which will inform the critical and theoretical backdrop to this module.

Learning outcomes

A	Evidence knowledge of key theories and debates relating to contemporary practices in experimental filmmaking
B Evidence knowledge of the historical development of experimental filmmaking
C Demonstrate an ability to use and explore the available technology, to plan, film and edit a short experimental film/film art piece
D Demonstrate the aesthetic, conceptual and technical skills necessary to articulate their ideas within experimental video practice
E Demonstrate an ability to critically evaluate their experimental production within theories and debates related to experimental filmmaking
