Aims and Fit of Module

As the fundamental skill and knowledge of industrial design, 2D expression, including hand sketching and digital rendering, plays an important role for the students to express and develop their design ideas. In this module, the students will learn skills of manual sketching and rendering. The outcomes from this module will continuously influence many other modules and design projects after it, especially studio modules.

Learning outcomes

A. Identify the perspective rules and correctly create perspective and side view drawings of industrial design products
B. Draw shadings for a product and create az realistic three-dimensional effect using a pencil
C. Flexibly apply colour pencils, pastels and markers to colour a product
D. Perform sketching techniques to indicate the features of a product

Method of teaching and learning

This module will be delivered through lectures followed by demonstrations, briefings, tutorials and practice. The practice consists of small sketching tasks during which instructors and tutors will provide tutorials as well as feedback.
