This module focuses on learning how to use basic vector and pixel manipulation software for industrial design purposes. Being able to visualize concepts and proposals in two-dimensional form is a fundamental skill for industrial design students. The outcome of this module will support many other modules, especially the studio modules.

Learning outcomes 
A. Perform vector and pixel manipulations using software on a basic level

B. Make a professional looking two-dimensional visualization or layout for industrial design purposes with vector and pixel manipulation software

C. Demonstrate how visualization can support industrial design (processes).

D. Reproduce and use knowledge about common image and printing/screen formats

Method of teaching and learning 
The module is taught as a lab practical with short introductory lectures and demonstrations. Students will work individually on exercises and assignments and receive guidance from the module leader or TA’s.
Students will be introduced to computer software such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator or their equivalents. In exercises that will gradually increase in complexity they will learn how to operate pixel and vector based programs and use them to develop and manipulate visualizations and typography. Students will learn to break down and plan visualizations and layouts in components and prioritize these according to their possible effect on the viewer. The main assignment for this module is to design a visual instruction of how to operate an industrial design. Pending the availability of rooms and lecturers this module will be taught in an Apple or PC-lab.
