Aims and Fit of Module

This module evaluates the role of transnational corporations (TNCs) as both a source of many of the challenges confronting humanity today, and as part of the solution to these problems through their production location decisions, R&D and innovation activities, corporate social responsibilities and ethical business behaviour.  It explores how TNCs are affected by and respond to contemporary external forces and dynamics in global affairs, including issues arising from regional integration and globalisation (analysed on INR403) and global transformation and crises (analysed on INR407). The module develops in students the ability to evaluate how changes to the international operating environment influence the strategic policies and managerial practices of TNCs at a global, regional, national and sub-national level.  It teaches students how to navigate volatility, complexity, and uncertainty in the international business environment arising from increasing cross-border trade and investment tensions, political risk, resources depletion, environmental degradation, climate change, mass migration, resistance to globalisation and related factors. Through this, students will develop the ability to identify potential threats and opportunities for business and to advocate suitable actions and measures.

Method of teaching and learning

Classes will consist of lectures, seminars, case study analysis, and business simulations, and the module will also involve private study and research.
