Aims and Fit of Module

This introductory module aims to introduce students to the field of Communication and Media studies. It is intended to give them an overview over the wide fields of communication and media and pique their interest in following them further. Students will be exposed to a variety of media channels, media content and audience research. They will also receive instruction in how to begin analysing media and how to assess media agendas. Finally, students will be given to opportunity to reflect on their own media usage and on how it is shaping their lives.

D. reflect on personal and social media usage with some degree of critical thinking
E. produce academic language at CEFR B1+ level

Method of teaching and learning

The module will involve a weekly lecture delivered by the School of Film and Television Arts (SoFTA), followed by a 2-hour seminar delivered by the Language Centre (LC). Seminar sessions will work with lecture content to enhance student understanding, while also facilitating improvements in their language and study skills.
