Aims and Fit of Module

for students on their programme.

The main aims of this module are:

a)	To examine and practice a range of specific academic oral communication skills in an English-medium environment 

b)	To develop students’ understanding of XJTLU’s Academic Integrity Policy and strategies to avoid plagiarism, collusion and the embellishment of data

Learning outcomes

A.	Understand and use appropriate academic skills, language, style, and structure for specific academic communications
B.	Deliver a formal presentation on a topic related to a specific field of study
C.	Demonstrate an ability to adhere to academic integrity requirements

Method of teaching and learning

This module will be offered in Semester 2 of the Academic Year.
The teaching sessions are 1 2-hour seminar each week for 9 weeks, with additional self-study.
As an hours-based module, students may miss no more than 4 class hours in order to be permitted to submit their summative assessment portfolio.
Throughout this module, tutors will use a variety of communicative language teaching/learning strategies to reach different types of learners.
