This module will introduce the Haier COSMOPlat Mass Customization Platform which is an award-winning platform leading the establishment of international standards for mass customization models and the future development of smart manufacturing in the world. Students will learn basics and how to use this platform in practical cases through this module through two-semester study. This module will introduce the concepts of mass customization and basic idea of innovation, research&development (R&D), marketing, service, Haier’s experience on them regarding mass customization, and COMOPlat and its implementation and application in practice.

D Understand the background, history and development of Haier’s COSMOPlat mass customization platform

E Master the basic skills and tools for several key processing modules including interactive mass customization and open innovation.

F Apply COSMOPlat in practical mass customization cases.
Method of teaching and learning 
This module will be delivered through a combination of formal lectures and in-class case studies.
1. Background:

International and national background; the Internet era; the 4th Industrial Revolution; “Made in China 2025”; supply-side reform; brief introduction to the COMOPlat mass customization platform; one core, two differentiations and three features of the platform;

2. Crowd Customization:

Interactive online customization based on user communities;

3. R&D Mode – Open Innovation:

Introduction to the theory, requirements and practices of open innovation; challenges and solutions to the execution and management of the enterprise open innovation; introduction to “Hope” – Haier’s open innovation platform and its achievements;

4. Precision Marketing:

Individual-based precision marketing based on user profile and personal tags generated from CRM management, user community resources, big data research and cluster analysis;

5. Module Purchasing:

Platform development directing at the resources of module suppliers and their needs of zero-distance interaction with users; requirement-oriented design, module-based supplies;

6. Smart Manufacturing:

Use smart key software including OES,APS,MES,MMS,EMS,TPM,SCADA,EAM,SPC,WMS to realize intelligent production scheduling, real-time monitoring and precise delivery and energy optimization; standardized, precise, module-based, autonomous, digitalized and intelligent interconnected factories linking users, whole processes and whole elements supporting mass customization;

7. Smart Logistics:

Intelligent platform composed of core operation and visualization software kits which provides appointment management, coordinated delivery, shipment tracking visualization, and vehicle management; one-stop service integrating nationwide warehouse and delivery;

8. Smart Service:

Introduction to the orientation, mission, concept and standard of service innovation at Haier; development and evolvement of Haier’s service management mode; execution and achievements of Haier’s service innovation.

9. Smart Products:

Provide users more solutions of value-added and customized service through the platform composed of interconnected electric appliances.
