Aims
This module aims to introduce students the innovative “Ren Dan He Yi” management model proposed by Haier, which is also regarded as the “Win-win model of Individual-Goal Combination”. This model fits in with the internet age by shifting the center from the company to the users, and has shown great success.


Students will also have opportunities to apply this model to practice in the industry after graduating from this programme.
Learning outcomes 
A. understand the background, history and the logic of reform of Haier’s “Ren dan he yi” management model;

B. familiar with the concepts and implementation of the “Ren dan he yi” model;

C. Master the 5-step implementation approach: strategies, organization, operation, driving mechanisms and close-loop optimization;

D. Appreciate the “Vertical and Horizontal Axis Matching Table”, the “User-Oriented Gathering and Dismiss” model, the “Win-win Profit Table”, The “Individual-pay” scheme and the “Dynamic Partnership” model in practice.

E. Understand the schemes, methodology, and essentials of innovation;

F. Know the ecological value of the “Ren dan he yi” model;

G. Apply the innovation theories to practice.
Method of teaching and learning 
This module will be delivered through formal lectures and in-class case studies.
Syllabus 
1. Overview:

Introduction to the background, history and development of the “Ren dan he yi” management model; basic concepts of autonomous micro-enterprises, value of users;

2. The Five-step Implementation Approach:

1) Strategic Innovation:

The theory and practical implementation of “Vertical and Horizontal Axis Matching Table” (VHAMT);

2) Organizational Innovation:

The “User-Oriented Gathering and Dismiss” model;

3) Operation Innovation:

The “Win-win Profit Table” and its advantages compared with traditional profit and loss table; employee remuneration based on the VHAMT;

4) Mechanism Driving:

History and development of employee – motivating theory; the “Individual-pay” scheme with the framework of one core, three mechanisms and six procedures and its achievements; the “Dynamic Partnership” model and its difference from traditional stock ownership incentive mechanism;

5) Closed-loop Optimization:

Haier’s experience of management innovations.

1) The schema of innovation:

Basis of the concepts of innovation;

2) Methodologies of innovation:

Implementation details of building and running start-up companies; registration, external financing, equity dilution, corporate valuation and tax related issues;

3) Case-studies on innovation:

Haier’s five strategic phases: the branding strategy phase, the diversification strategy phase, the globalization strategy phase, the global branding strategy phase, and the internet-based strategy phase.

4) Essentials of innovation:

Summary of the key components of innovation;

4. Ecological Value of the “Ren dan he yi” Model:

1) The innovation value of the model:

Illustrate the innovative concepts of the “Ren Dan He Yi” model, and explain its advantages compared with other traditional management models in the era of Internet;

2) Crossover replication of the model:

Case studies: analyze the successful implementation of the “Ren Dan He Yi” model in various crossover fields.

3) International recognition of the model:

Worldwide awards and recognitions to the model.
