Spanish Language 3

Module Title Spanish Language 3
Module Level Level 0
Module Credits 5.00

Aims and Fit of Module

The aim of this module is to provide students who have some previous knowledge (A1 or equivalent) with the opportunity to develop confidence and skills to apply upper-beginner (A1+) structures of Spanish in different daily contexts.
This module also aims to offer a fresh and stimulating approach to the study of Spanish speaking cultures and civilizations.
All the Spanish modules have been developed taking into account the QAA benchmark statements for a full or minor component in a language. QAA benchmark statements relate to the language component comprising at least one-third of the study total, resulting in students at the end of the relevant degree programme being at level C1. These Spanish modules make up less than one third of study and so the realistic minimum that would be achieved for a student starting at a beginner level in year 1 is CEFR B1, though students with some initial knowledge would be at B2.

Learning outcomes

A. Understand simple oral messages about familiar topics in everyday spoken Spanish.
B. Comprehend and locate information about familiar topics in simple written texts.

Method of teaching and learning

• Core teaching takes place through Spanish language and study skills workshops with an emphasis on student-to-student interaction and all student participation.
• In addition, there will be guided reading and directed study to enable students to prepare for and reinforce class input and develop autonomous learning strategies. Online resources will also be used to complement contact sessions and workshops whereby additional information and resources can be made available electronically and on-line discussions between students and tutors can be held.
