Aims
This module aims to equip students linguistically and culturally to communicate successfully in Spanish, and help them to meet the requirements for CEFR A1 equivalence.
Learning outcomes 
A understand oral messages on everyday life situations in the target country so as to react appropriately demonstrating a basic insight into the most common aspects of the culture.

B make himself/herself understood orally in simple, routine, predictable situations and coping with unexpected responses by asking for repetition or clarification.

C read aloud and extract key information from short, simple texts and written documents (messages, notices, instructions, brochures, etc.);

D write simple notes, messages and short personal letters or emails (e.g. write a postcard to a friend, book a hotel room by email, and fill in a simple form).

Method of teaching and learning 
Communicative language teaching involves a high level of interaction between teacher and students. Teaching and assessment will revolve around the setting and completion of specified language tasks.

This module includes 3 seminar hours for 12 weeks, plus 2 hours lectures in weeks 5 and another 2 in week 9. Students will have 60 hours of self-study to support their learnings.

In order to submit their coursework tasks, the students must attend at least 8 weeks of seminars hours out of the 12 total weeks.

Syllabus 
The syllabus will develop the four language skills of listening, reading, speaking and writing. Students will acquire a general knowledge of the basic grammar along with a socio cultural view of Spanish-speaking countries; they will also achieve basic receptive skills in both oral and written language.
