Aims and Fit of Module

The aim of this Year 1 module is to prepare students for study on BA/BEng Urban Planning and Design. This module provides students a basic understanding of what a city is and how urban planners and designers understand and influence cities.

Learning outcomes

A. Demonstrate a basic understanding of concepts and theories relevant to urban planning and design

B. Explain the basic principles of urban planning and design

Method of teaching and learning

Lectures provide a general outline of the theories and practice of urban planning and design while practical sessions give students hands-on training in skills and connect theory with practice.


Some sessions on this module may be delivered by Language Centre tutors with the aim of assisting students with language/study skills requirements for the module. Students may also be provided with online language/study support to help them engage with the module content.
