Aims and Fit of Module

Diseases, like infectious disease and non-communicable diseases could affect individuals, families and the society. This module will provide Year 1 students the role of governments, health organizations, healthcare providers and patients in promoting health and preventing diseases.

Learning outcomes

A. Describe the basic function of healthcare system
B. Discuss issues relating to ethics in healthcare
C. Understand on a non-specialist level the causes, transmission and treatment of infectious diseases
D. Demonstrate understanding of non-communicable diseases and the roles of governments, health organizations, healthcare providers and patients in combating these diseases.

Method of teaching and learning

Course content will be delivered primarily via standard lectures that will be accompanied by suitable lecture handouts (also available on LMO). Tutorials will be given as a platform to address any specific question or issue from students.
