This module will introduce the student to the foundational concepts of International and Global health. It will examine the critical dimensions of global health in order to prepare the student to understand the public health needs of populations in low-income countries and the structure of health at the global level of analysis.
A. Distinguish between the perspectives of public health in domestic settings from those in international and global health settings. B. Evaluate public health issues by examining different levels of analysis from a global health perspective. C. Determine the health challenges of vulnerable populations across the world. D. Investigate key global health actors, along with their roles, responsibilities and activities.
Lecture, small group discussions in tutorials and debates will all be utilised. Videos will also be introduced as need. Additionally, there will be an international field work component for a week.
