This module aims to provide students fundamental understanding of network protocols and architectures, a common basis for the study of advanced modules in wireless and optical networking, and to enable them to use tools & techniques for the design and analysis of the performance of network protocols and architectures.
A. Gain critical insight into the operation of key network protocols and algorithms for MAC, routing/switching, and TCP flow/congestion control.
B. Design and analyse the performance of network protocols and architectures using mathematical techniques and/or computer simulations.
C. Assess the operational issues in network architectures and protocols.
D. Plan the deployment of network systems appropriate for target customers and geographical areas.
This module will be delivered through a combination of formal lectures and supervised laboratory sessions.
