This module is designed to develop a sound understanding and appreciation of the development of the cities, and provinces within China, and the future directions of the regions. An understanding of the reasons for change from an agricultural economy to a manufacturing/service economy will also be discussed
A Possess a basic appreciation of China’s regions as geo-political and geo-economic entities.
B Understand the social, economic, scientific and technological demands of regional development in China
C Be familiar with the growth of Special Economic Zones in the various regions of China, and understand the reasons for this growth.
D Appreciate the challenges facing China’s development from an agricultural 3rd world economy to a first world economy
This module will be taught in a lecture and semester mode.
