Aims and Fit of Module

The aim of the module is to introduce the concept of sustainable development in the engineering context and raise awareness of emerging issues that will dictate engineering practice in the 21st century.

Learning outcomes

A Define sustainable development and identify environmental issues related to the developing world.
B Define the green engineering and understand its fundamental key concepts.
C Describe the components of life cycle assessment (LCA) and perform a comparative LCA.
D Understand the impact of the Built Environment on social, economic, and environmental systems.
E Use an integrated systems approach in design and evaluation of the Built Environment.

Method of teaching and learning

The module is delivered through a series of lectures with associated tutorials and case studies.
