The aim of the module is to enhance the knowledge and abilities with regard to the different building materials used in civil engineering constructions while understanding the sustainable use and development of them.
A. Evaluate, use and adapt specific design methodologies and sustainable materials on the basis of life cycle assessment.
B. Assess the environmental impact of traditional construction materials and determine environmental friendly solutions through practices of reduce, reuse, and recycle at material and structure levels.
C. Apply sustainable practices based on international building codes (Eurocodes) to address sustainability concerns.
D. Judge and select appropriate cement replacement materials on the basis of performance and sustainability.
The main content of the module is delivered through formal lectures and lab practices assessed by lab report and project-based coursework. The coursework requires both an oral presentation and written report.
