Aims and Fit of Module

The aims of this modules is to provide the students with the basics of nanotechnology and nanomaterials, and deepen their understanding in their synthesis, analysis and contemporary applications. In detail: 1. To introduce the basic chemistry and physics principles of nanotechnology 2. To introduce the fundamental concepts of surfaces, and the chemical and physical properties of surfaces 3. To assess different synthetic approaches of nanomaterials 4. To convey an understanding of important experimental and analysis techniques in nanotechnology 5. To explore the research applications of advanced materials

Learning outcomes

A. Demonstrate good understanding of the principles of nanoscience and nanotechnology B. Demonstrate good understanding of synthetic approaches of nanomaterials C. Explore the basics of nanomaterials characterization D. Analyze the structure, processes, dynamics and functionality of surfaces, and how these determine chemical and physical properties E. Appreciate the current state of development of nanomaterials and their important role in achieving desirable functionality in disparate applications
