Aims and Fit of Module

The aims of this module are to provide students with knowledge of protecting groups, the principles of using protecting groups in organic synthesis, the essential knowledge in supramolecular chemistry and its applications in biomimics and biocatalysis, and in-depth information on asymmetric synthesis.

A critically evaluate protecting groups and the concept of orthogonal protection
B appreciate the principles of using protecting groups in organic synthesis
C appraise the principles of chemistry behind solid phase synthesis
D compare the principles of asymmetric synthesis
E solve problems featuring synthetic strategy for asymmetric induction, resolution and purity determination
F appreciate non-covalent bonding with respect to supramolecular chemistry
G critically evaluate host‐guest compounds for cation-binding and anion binding
H critically evaluate supramolecular assemblies, able to assess, understand and rationalize these assemblies
