This module aims to enable students to systematically understand classical Chinese texts while enhancing their comprehension of cultural connotations and historical contexts. By mastering classical Chinese, students will gain insights into the cultural, social, and historical aspects of pre-twentieth century China and deepen their understanding of modern Chinese by highlighting connections between ancient and contemporary language. Additionally, the course will introduce English translations of classical texts, fostering cross-cultural awareness and critical thinking, and equip students with commonly used reference tools for independent study.
