Aims and Fit of Module

The module introduces students to the history, key concepts and academic study of journalism. Students will be encouraged to explore core issues including professionalism, ethics, objectivity and the current state of journalism, as well as the differences between Western and Chinese conceptions of journalism. The module aims to help students develop skills in finding and evaluating academic literature, useful for the later modules on journalism and PR, and provides them with the foundational theoretical concepts underpinning the practical module News Reporting.
