Aims and Fit of Module

This module aims to introduce students to a wide range of mass communication theories. Students will gain insight in the development of media theories over the years, the scholars who produced them and how the social context influenced the theories. The module also aims to develop students’ ability to apply specific theories to specific media products.

Learning outcomes

A. Understand a range of theories on mass communication.
B. Be familiar with the history, social context and timeline of mass communication theories and the scholars who developed them.
C. Be able to use specific mass communication theories to analyze specific mass media products.
