To look at major themes and issues in contemporary investigative journalism, reviewing major investigations, such as the iconic Watergate scandal, in print, broadcast, and online. To provide students with a survey of the major figures and stories in investigative journalism history, the political, social and economic context in which investigative journalism developed, and issues affecting investigative journalism today.
By the end of this module students will be able to demonstrate:
a) a historical appreciation of the development of investigative journalism and major figures and investigations in the history of investigative journalism;
b) show familiarity with the values, work practices and features of investigative journalists;
C. demonstrate understanding to the influences, changes and challenges to investigative journalism.
