Aims and Fit of Module

This module introduces students to the culture, history, technologies, and theories of new media. It involves an exploration of the relationship between the spread of new media and contemporary society. It is an aim of this module to introduce students to historical and contemporary cutting-edge research in the field.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the module students will:
A. understand and analyze the nature of new media and its relationship to social and cultural changes;
B. analyze of the intersections between social and historical changes and the development of communication studies in relationship to ‘new media’;
C. understand and analyze how these technologies affect older forms of media and how the birth of these new media have inflected culture.
