Aims and Fit of Module

To introduce the major principles of the science of nutrition and its central importance to the health of populations.

Learning outcomes

A Describe the processes of ingestion, digestion, absorption, metabolism and utilization of nutrients.
B Identify both macro- and micro-nutrient requirements required for health.
C Discuss the sociocultural factors that can influence dietary patterns.
D Outline methods used for nutritional assessment.
E Interpret the complex factors and stakeholders affecting food security and famine.
