Aims and Fit of Module

Students will be introduced to Chinese health care and the Chinese health care system in ancient and contemporary China. The successes and challenges of China's historical and current health policies, campaigns and reforms will be critically examined.

Learning outcomes

A. Analyse the general situation of historical and contemporary health care in China.
B. Assess the impact of Chinese medicine’s philosophy, method and influence on allopathic medicine.
C. Assess the important influences in the development of and reception to biomedicine during the Republican period.
D. Critically appraise the importance of health care developments during the early PRC.
E. Appraise the success and failure of health reforms in 21st century China.
F. Appraise the process of health reform in China
