Aims and Fit of Module

The aim of this module is to demonstrate to students, via topical arguments of relevance to business students, how modern economics can illuminate the problems that businesses (both national and international) face on a day-to-day basis.

Learning outcomes

A. Demonstrate understanding of the processes and methods by which individuals, companies and transnational corporations manage the allocation of resources in both domestic and international contexts.
B. Demonstrate understanding of how companies respond to macroeconomic forces in the global economy.

Method of teaching and learning

This module will be delivered via a combination of lectures and seminars. Lectures will be designed to provide essential information and introduce students to the basic tools of analysis. A programme of tutorials will provide students with a learning opportunity designed to extend the material introduced in the lectures, through the in-depth analysis of a selection of specific real-life problems faced by individuals and businesses, in the context of both the national and international economies.
