Aims and Fit of Module

This module aims to provide students with a good knowledge of both the generality and the unity of game theory. We do this by presenting some of the most important models, solution concepts, and results of game theory and the methodological principles that have guided game theorists to develop these models and solutions. This module will provide insights into any economic, political, or social situation involving individuals with different goals or preferences. It will also enable students to read and understand some frontier economics research published in top academic journals.

Learning outcomes

A. Formulate games and solution concepts from game theory. B. Analyze and solve simple games in the appropriate framework. C. Solve mixed strategy and extensive form games. D. Identify, apply and elaborate on the most appropriate type of game in a particular context. E. Apply and evaluate critically game theory tools in the business, economics and political contexts and in experiments.

Method of teaching and learning

This module will be taught using a combination of lectures and tutorials. Lectures are designed as the focal point of the week. Tutorials provide an opportunity to discuss some of the contents of the module and additional reading materials.
