Aims and Fit of Module

The aim of this module is to equip students with fundamental robotic knowledge and skills and stimulate their interests in robotics. Robotics is an interdisciplinary branch of engineering and science that involves mechanical engineering, electrical and electronic engineering, information engineering and computer science. A first-year introductory course that covers fundamentals and learning roadmap is essential and beneficial for students enrolled in this interdisciplinary programme.

Learning outcomes

A Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of basic concepts in robotics.
B Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the state-of-the-art robotic systems from both industrial and academia perspectives.
C Appreciate the emerging topics in robotics.
D Obtain practical skills for designing, building and programming a simple robot.
E Cultivate teamwork ethics and skills, and literature review and oral presentation skills.

Method of teaching and learning

This module will be delivered through a combination of formal lectures and supervised laboratory sessions.
