Aims and Fit of Module

The aims of the module are to provide students with the knowledge, principles and theoretical frameworks relevant to entrepreneurship; introduce to the student current issues concerning entrepreneurship and small business; support the development of subject specific and transferable skills necessary for future employment; support the enhancement of skills in written and spoken communication.

Learning outcomes

A. show advanced knowledge of entrepreneurship and of small firm sectors and markets
B. demonstrate understanding of the theories, concepts and empirical work that underpin entrepreneurship
C. develop a critical awareness of the multi-disciplinary aspects of entrepreneurship and small business development, and how these aspects have the potential to interact.
D. develop a preliminary knowledge of startup a small business

Method of teaching and learning

The teaching philosophy of the module follows very much the philosophy of Syntegrative Education. This has meant that the teaching delivery pattern, which follows more intensive block teaching, allows more meaningful contribution from industry partners. This philosophy is carried through also in terms of assessment, with reduction on the use of exams and increase in coursework, especially problem-based assessments that are project focused. The delivery pattern provides space in the semester for students to concentrate on completing the assessments.
Teaching will include formal lectures, seminars, tutorials and group discussion
