Aims and Fit of Module

This module is designed to provide students with a preliminary understanding of the film production process, narrative methods and aesthetic value through a detailed analysis of the film in terms of screenplay, directing, photography, editing, sound production, etc.

Method of teaching and learning

Teaching will revolve around a classic film chosen by the module conveyer. After watching the film, students will continue to watch and read other materials related to the film, such as behind-the-scene documentaries, interviews with filmmakers, media response, related academic works, etc., so as to understand the social and cultural background of the film, the production process of the film, and the production team's responsibilities and crafts, and under the guidance of the module conveyer, conduct a detailed analysis of certain scenes of the film, understand how audio-visual language is used, and appreciate the artistic value of the film in many subdivisions.
