Aims and Fit of Module

The aim of the module is to train students with a strategic overview of family business governance, providing the students with the most advanced tools and techniques for the success and sustainability of family businesses. Through this module, students will learn to play an effective role in their family business, or to effectually deploy the tools to guide family business governance. Students will also learn to facilitate family business’ sustainable development and competence advancement.

A Demonstrate understanding of the key aspects of family business governance. B Critically evaluate the potential risks and issues in family business governance. C Critically evaluate a range of tools to help family companies to achieve comprehensive governance objectives. D Account for issues of ethics and environmental sustainability in family business governance.

Method of teaching and learning

Based on the philosophy of Syntegrative Education, this module’s delivery pattern follows more intensive block teaching, and allows more meaningful contribution from industry partners. This delivery pattern provides space for students to concentrate on completing the problem-based and project-oriented assessments. This module will be delivered through a series of key lectures/seminars. In addition, students will be required to analyse a number of cases, determining what worked and why.
